What my son taught me after a HARD day
Being a mom is not a walk in the park. Each day brings a new set of challenges and we deal the best we can. Yesterday I had a day that was just tough from wake-up to bed-time. I have been trying to get up before Noah wakes up instead of having him as my alarm clock like I usually do. It helps me start my day and although it's hard waking up early some morning it is worth the little bit of peace.
Well, yesterday I woke up early and so did Noah. It was a hard day from breakfast on. I won't go into huge detail, but lets just say there were plenty of toddler tantrums and a possible make-over on said toddler who found my makeup (insert eye-roll emoji), but by nap time (that came an hour and a half early) I was feeling defeated and honestly in tears. My toddler had whooped my butt to say the least. The baby is currently crawling and into everything and spilling daddy's coffee wherever he leaves it (totally in her reach)...ya know whatever could go wrong was, or so it felt. Funny how our bad days don't seem that bad after a nights sleep and fresh perspective.
I know these hard days especially as Noah figures out how to deal with all his toddler emotions will happen more frequently, but it is taught me something important.
Kid's give us SO much grace. Like sooo much. Have you ever stopped to think about that? Noah can have a really hard day and I don't always handle it so well. I can lose my temper and yell, which I totally hate by the way but it happens. And can I just say that yelling doesn't even phase this kid so all it does it make me look dumb. ha. It's amazing that our kids never hold a grudge from our actions. In fact, after our especially tough day Noah asked for "twinkle twinkle" one more time and I begrudgingly went back in while holding the baby and sang to him. He reached up and rubbed my arm while I sang almost to remind me that I am doing my best.
The truth is we're all going to have rough days as mamas, but it is so important to remember to give ourselves grace as well as our kids. We can all try a little harder the next day. Remember when you are down in the trenches of motherhood, I am right there with you. Though there are hard days there will be far more great days that I am so grateful to be home for.
My goal is to continue to wake up before the kids to start my day, have more patience, talk more calmly and work thru the hard parts of the day, because at the end of the day we are the example of what behavior should look like to our kids. We are the ones they will be around most and the ones they WANT to be around! So I am going to try to be the mom I'd want to be around too practicing grace in all my relationships.
Siena August Rose | 8 Month Update
You guys, I have been slacking on this poor blog! I have just been in a funk so I apologize if you are looking for more posts but I am trying to recommit to getting more posted. For some reason I never miss posting these updates. They aren't the most read or popular posts but they are important to me! I love to look back on them and the months just fly by that it is nice to stop and reflect. I still want to share Noah's 2.5 year update before he's 3 hahah there is just so much happening right now that I don't want to forget!!
With each new month I wish for her to stay in this phase because it becomes my favorite! It's safe to say she is just going to keep getting more fun! She seriously has the best personality blossoming and is so funny!
EAT.
This girl LOVES to eat! She is becoming a pro at eating solids. We just recently introduced puffs and she loves them. She really loves anything tho! If we start eating dinner and it isn't time for her solids yet I will try to sneak over to the table and eat but she is too smart and crawls as fast as she can over to the table and will whine until we share. haha. She is also eating the applesauce pouches like a pro which is super convenient for when we are out and about! She uses a sippy cup with a straw. We give her water here and there for practice but she isn't using it all the time. She does awesome with it tho! I am kind of surprised because Noah's cup is a more difficult cup to drink from. She still isn't taking a bottle but at least she loves solids and will use a cup so if an emergency happened I think she would be OK without me for a few hours ;)
Her eating schedule looks like this:
Wake up & Nurse
1 hour after waking fruit purees with organic oat meal mixed in
Nurse after morning nap
mid afternoon she will have a squeeze pouch or applesauce or fruit
Nurse after afternoon nap
Dinner time she will one big pack of meat mixture purees and one pack of fruit
Nurse before bed time
I was surprised that she is already wanting a mid day snack/"lunch", but I couldn't recall when I started doing that with Noah so maybe this is the right time she have solids 3 times per day. One day she was being fussy and I couldn't figure out what was wrong until I gave her something to eat! Girl loves her food :)
SLEEP.
Siena is pretty much on the 2, 3, 4 schedule. So she wakes up in the morning and has 2 hours of wake time before needing a nap, then she is awake for 3 hours and needs an afternoon nap and then is awake for 4 hours before going to bed for the night. Her naps are between 1-2 hours long most days. She does well with napping on the go and being a little off schedule, but she truly sleeps best in her crib. She has begun to move around in her crib and was scooching down to the bottom completely off the dock a tot. I was finding her like that in the morning and after every nap. I tried one day to take the dock out and it was like she didn't know what to do in there without it. So I left it in for a few more weeks and some naps/wake-ups she would stay in it, but recently she has been out of it every time and on her belly! So I took the dock out again so she would have more room to move around and it has been going well. Just goes to show that something that didn't work before might work in the future!! She is totally a luvie girl like her big bro and sleeps with her bunny every nap and at bed time. She sleeps thru the night every night and usually sleeps 12 hours sometimes a little less. Bed time is between 7&8 depending on when her last nap is.
WHAT'S NEW?
This last month was full of so many "firsts"! It was a pretty big month for little miss S. She began to crawl and is now quick as lightening! She figured out how to pull up on everything and anything so nothing is safe anymore haha.
She popped her first tooth and although she was pretty fussy at times it wasn't so bad. I hope the rest come in like that one. She popped her second bottom tooth a few days ago too! She has only bitten me once or twice (still ouch!) and I hope that's the extent to that.
She tried and LOVES puffs, Cheerios and Annie's cocoa bunnies!!
She says, "mama" and has for a bit but just recently started saying "dada" which Robbie is SO happy about!
She claps her little hands and it is precious!!
And of course, her FIRST Easter!!
FAVORITES.
- Bath time!! She loves taking a bath and is a great way to calm her before bed.
- FOOD!
- Nursing
- Mama. Still her favorite although she loves catching an afternoon nap on daddy and he totally eats it up!
- Her big brother! Noah can be mean to her at times tho...she's going to be tough
- Her bunny luvie
- Crawling and standing...even in the bathtub. eek!
