I was itching to paint it because blonde wood just isn't my thing. I love the combo of white and dark furniture. I decided to hop on amazon and see if I could get some paint sent to me in the colors I was thinking. I also wanted to add some color to my existing kitchen chairs.
This is the paint I was able to order. I have heard great things about Annie Sloan chalk paint or make your own! |
I painted about 4 coats onto the table top to get it covered really well. The paint was pretty easy to work with. It dries quickly and there was so priming or sanding required. I am not an avid DIYer so honestly I didn't know what I was doing. So if you are like me definitely try out chalk paint! I think it's great for beginners. I would love to get better tho. I am always swooning over pinterest DIY projects!
The table was tricky to seal because I couldn't get the finishing wax to ship to me. I highly recommend using the finishing wax if possible. We used a spray paint. The chairs I just didn't seal and so far they've been fine (knock on wood).
I did 3 coats on the chairs but decided I liked the look of not painting the seat. We then sanded them down to dull the color a bit and also made it have a distressed look. I love the shabby chic look! I didn't want every chair to look the same so we did them each a little different.
