As our European travels are coming to a close I really want to catch up on blogging our trips. So I'll start with our most recent adventure, The Amalfi Coast or as I like to call it, Italian Paradise. It was pretty important to me to get down there. We went to Sicily and Naples last Summer on our cruise and saw Pompeii but we didn't spend time on the Amalfi Coast. I was dreaming of getting to the Island of Capri.
We have been lucky to plan a trip on our anniversary the last 3 years. The first year we took a cruise all thru Greece, the second year was our cruise last summer which hit southern Italy, malta and Spain and then this year we went to the Amalfi Coast. It's like we keep taking "honey moon" trips since our honey moon was a short trip to San Diego and then the next year Robbie was at tech school so we couldn't be together on our Anniversary.
We flew into Naples and I found plane tickets for really cheap. Def the cheapest flight we have taken and it was only an hour! Score! Noah is still young enough to be a lap baby but it can be rough so the faster the flight the better. I like to use SkyScanner to find flights. We then took a bus from the Naples air port to Sorrento. It was 10 euros per person and Noah was free. It was a coach bus and took us about an hour and a half to get there. The initial traffic of the autostrada and then the narrow busy roads made it take that long. Once getting to Sorrento we wanted to get right to our hotel which was in Positano. We were able to change buses right where the bus dropped us off so that was easy. It was 8 euros per person but it is 24 hour service between the nearby cities (Positano, Amalfi, Salerno and Sorrento). It's a little more money and walk from the bus station but you can also take the water taxi to the different towns as well. It can be faster but may not run when you're needing it to.
We were dropped off in Positano and the views were absolutely incredible! I was instantly happy I chose that town to stay in. Positano is a little less busy and touristy in comparison to Sorrento or Capri. The bus dropped us off and we had to map out where our hotel was. Of course it was way at the top of the hill from where we were dropped off. haha it never fails that we get lots of exercise when on vacation! The coast is not really stroller friendly and Noah is Mr. Independent these days so he doesn't last long in the carrier. So he was walking or being carried the whole time. Mostly walking tho and he LOVED it. He wanted to stop to look at everything. Especially the "WaWa". lol We stayed at Casa Teresa, a bed and breakfast. Other than the water pressure or lack there of and Noah's crib not being ready it was a great place to stay. The view was incredible!
Our first day in Positano:
The View from our balcony |
He had his own gelato... |
Then stole my cone! |
So in order to get down to the beach or main square of Positano we were told by our hotel to take the steps down. Ya'll I'm not even exaggerating it was like 20 flights of stairs. Going down wasn't so bad but up...OMG our calves were sore for DAYS. Then the last day we were there we learned we could have gone up 2 flights and waited for a local bus to bring us down for super cheap. Womp, womp, womp...LOL oh well!
Our second day we spent on the Isle of Capri. We booked our water taxi out of Positano the day before. They have 2 per day that leave in the morning. We took the earliest one. Noah loved being on the boat. I def enjoyed sitting up top vs inside because the motion wasn't so bad.
We got off and booked our tour around the island. It was so much fun! We kept splashing the water on Noah and he would yell, "more more!!" He loved it and eventually passed out on daddy. He couldn't hang but without a stroller to nap in we were thankful he decided to snooze!
We ate some of the best fried calmari I have EVER had and I am not a big sea food person. The coast is known for the lemons so we saw huge lemons everywhere and lots of lemon flavored treats. I have to tell Noah over and over that they weren't apples lol.
We hung out at a relaxing beach area before heading back. The beaches are all rocky which was my only complaint but I loved feeling the water on my toes and watching the waves.
I know, common theme here but when you have the opportunity to put a baby in a boat you do it! |
Silly boy insisted on taking off his shirt and wearing my hat :) |
We took the water taxi back and picked up supplies to make sandwiches on our balcony. Seriously delicious and beats out subway anyway haha and it was back up those stairs we went, but I had to have Robbie snap a few pics of the view along the way.
Our last day there we took the bus down to the town (not the steps!! haha) and had to find a cannoli! You don't go to southern Italy and not eat a cannoli. We found these babies and they didn't disappoint. Noah was in heaven lol. He is an Italian boy through and through!
We hung out on the beach and I had way to much fun getting pictures of Noah playing in the canoes!
Always on a mission |
We headed back to sorrento via water taxi this time which saved us some time and the feeling of major motion sickness because the twists and turns of the roads are no joke! We got off and walked to the bus station just in time to take the bus heading to Naples air port. We would have spent more time in Sorrento but we had our heavy back packs and this place is crazy busy. I'm talking cars and scooter will run you down and not bat an eye busy. Not really the best place for Noah without a stroller lol. I still got some good shots of Sorrento as we walked to the station.
We spent the remainder of the time chasing a toddler thru the airport before our flight back to Venice. Wouldn't want to spend our Anniversary any other way! lol. 4 years of marriage, 1 baby and another on the way.
And just like that we were back in our own beds. Hope you enjoyed seeing some highlights from our Amalfi Coast trip.
